EU: "no" to immigration quotas?

Monday, 8 June 2015

The European Commission has submitted a proposal to find a fairer way to admit and distribute asylum seekers in the EU. However, many EU countries don't accept the Commission's proposal.

The European Commission's proposal was put in place under Jean-Claude Juncker's impulse in order to help Italy managing the massive immigration waves coming to their country since 2012. The Commission's scheme needs to be adopted by the Council, voting by qualified majority, after consultation with the European Parliament. However, it looks like the plan will be rejected. For instance, France and Germany have asked for corrections, Poland would accept Christians only, and Spain has completely rejected the idea of quotas. So far the sustainable solution that Jean-Claude Junker was looking for seems compromised by the the nations interrests of each EU members.
