ENoMW’s Position Paper on Gender-Based Violence against Refugee & Migrant Women

November 2015

The European Network of Migrant Women, the largest umbrella organisation of migrant-led women’s non-governmental organisations within the European Union, published a Position Paper on Gender-Based Violence against Refugee & Migrant Women, in the views of the Valetta summit of November 11-12th.

"According to UNHCR, in the summer of 2015, Europe experienced the highest number of refugees since the Second World War. An increasing number of them are women fleeing war-torn regions. They are young and unaccompanied girls, mothers, pregnant women, older women, women with disabilities and others, who have made a desperate attempt to seek secure shelter in Europe. "

The European Network of Migrant Women, in the views of the forthcoming Valletta summit of November 11-12th (bringing together EU and African leaders) is asking the EU leader to put in place effective, gender appropriate measures, schemes and funding –  in line with the international and European instruments –  to protect the rights, safety and dignity of women fleeing conflict.
