"Diversity" is a concept having recently gained importance and being a central issue for our society since it includes economic, social and cultural considerations. Diversity defines the fight against discrimination in a positive way; this fight being directed against discrimination regarding age, disability, sexual orientation, race or ethnic origin or different convictions (religious, political, philosophical...). One of the essential elements of diversity is the integration of everybody into the labour market, according to the principle of equal treatment.

In companies, diversity is put forward by initiatives of CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility). Beyond the sanctioning of all discriminatory behaviour by European and national legislation, companies are asked to promote diversity because of its positive effects on economy and society. Indeed, companies benefit from qualified employees working in heterogeneous teams which are proven to be more creative and productive.

Companies, which have adopted a responsible behaviour and foster good citizenship, benefit from a more positive image among citizens, which is even more important in a society more and more aware of issues related to diversity. Therefore, CSR consists in taking into account the social and environmental consequences of companies' activities, as well as in cooperating with the different stakeholders.
