U.K.: Conservative Budget is a disaster if you're under 25

Thursday, 9 July 2015

In the United Kingdom, George Osborne's Budget hit hard the under-25s.

Georges Osborne, Chancellor of the Exchequer, has delivered Britain’s first radical budget for nearly 20 years, announcing huge welfare cuts offset by a higher minimum wage in a bid to create a “high wage, low tax, lower welfare” economy. Several og these reforms directly concern the under-25s and run the risk of increasing precarity and inequalities among this group. Students will face higher tuition fees, an end to maintenance grants at university, having to repay their student loans sooner, no more housing benefit and they are not even eligible for the new compulsory national living wage.
