Gender: EU to increase the participation of women on the labour market

Monday, 17 August 2015

The European Commission is working on new ideas to increase the participation of women on the labour market after the failure of the maternity leave proposal

According to the Commission, female labour market participation remains far below its potential in most European countries, due to a lack of possibilities for balancing work and family responsibilities. Women unemployment is a moral and social problem as they run a greater risk in falling into poverty, which is why the Commission has now published a roadmap outlining its first ideas to improve women participation into the labour market by modernising and adapting the current EU legal and policy framework to today's labour market.
