The EU Security, Migration and Borders Conference is partnership between Forum Europe and RAND Europe, it will address a number of the key components of Europe's internal security and migration strategies.

This conference will assess how digitisation and technology, including intelligent systems, data analytics and IoT, can support Europe's work in the areas of counterterrorism, border security and more efficient welfare and migrant integration systems.

Principle questions this conference will address include:

  • What direction will the reform of the Dublin system take?
  • How can the integration of genuine refugees and asylum seekers within in the EU be managed more efficiently and how effective is the EU's current legislation around migrant smuggling and human trafficking?
  • Is the new Smart Borders package enough to restore normal functioning of the Schengen area and deliver a more efficient, secure border control system in Europe?
  • How soon can we expect a European wide automated fingerprint recognition system to be integrated into the Schengen Information System?
  • How can technology support the functioning and cooperation between security orientated agencies in Europe?
  • How effective is the current EU work on tackling organised crime and terrorism? How can the links between serious organised crime and terrorist financing be disrupted further?
  • Can current arrangements with 3rd countries and international organisations be improved?
